DIGITAL DENTAL X RAY

With the aid of digital dental X-rays, conditions affecting the mouth, teeth, and jaw can be found and diagnosed. These images of the teeth, adjacent soft tissues, and surrounding bones are taken. Invisible dental structures (such as wisdom teeth), benign or malignant tumors, cavities, and bone loss are just a few of the things that an x-ray can show that a visual examination cannot. Since tooth decay and periodontal disease could be overlooked during a clinical exam, the radiographic evaluation of the dental and periodontal tissues is an essential part of the total oral examination. A controlled burst of X-ray radiation that, according to the anatomical density of the oral structures, reaches them at different depths before striking the digital sensor produces a radiographic image. Because less radiation goes through teeth and reaches the film, teeth appear lighter. Dental cavities, infections, other changes in bone density, and the periodontal ligament all appear darker on X-rays due to the ease with which X-rays can flow through these less dense components. Dental restorations (fillings, crowns) may appear lighter or darker depending on the material's density. Incidental exposure to X-ray radiation is further reduced by wearing a lead shield, lead apron, and occasionally a lead thyroid collar.
