Root Canal Treatment

During Root Canal Procedure your dentist will first perform a thorough examination, which may include taking X-rays to see the shape of the root canals and determine any signs of infection in the surrounding bone. Before starting the treatment, the dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the tooth and surrounding area to ensure a painless procedure. An access hole is drilled into the tooth to reach the infected pulp. This is usually done through the crown of the tooth. After that the infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed from the tooth's pulp chamber and root canals using special tools called endodontic files. Once the pulp is removed, the root canals are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to ensure they can be properly filled and sealed. Then the cleaned and shaped canals are then filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This rubber-like material seals the canals and prevents bacteria from re-entering. The access hole made at the beginning of the treatment is sealed with a temporary or permanent filling. If a temporary filling is used, it will be replaced with a permanent filling or crown at a later appointment.
