Digital dental radiographs, often known as digital X-rays, are being used by dentists more and more these days to better identify, diagnose, treat, and track oral illnesses and problems. Digital radiography is an X-ray imaging technique that creates better computer images of teeth, gums, and other oral structures and problems by using digital X-ray sensors in place of conventional photographic X-ray film. Three techniques are used to obtain digital dental images: direct, indirect, and semi-indirect. The direct method records images using an electronic sensor that is inserted into the mouth. The indirect method converts standard dental X-rays into digital images using an X-ray film scanner. Dental X-rays are converted into digital film using a semi-indirect digital technology that combines a sensor and scanner.
